چکیده
In this paper, we review some of the work our group has done in the past few years to obtain the electron self-energy of high temperature superconductors by analysis of angle-resolved photoemission data. We focus on three examples which have revealed: (1) a d-wave superconducting gap, (2) a collective mode in the superconducting state, and (3) pairing correlations in the pseudogap phase. In each case, although a novel result is obtained which captures the essence of the data, the conventional physics used leads to an incomplete picture. This indicates that new physics needs to be developed to obtain a proper understanding of these materials. q 1998 Elsevier Science Ltd. All rights reserved

A recently developed version of the discrete-ordinates method is used along with elementary numerical linear-algebra techniques to establish an e$cient and especially accurate solution to what can be called Chandrasekhar's basic problem in radiative transfer, namely the problem of computing the radiation intensity in a "nite plane-parallel layer illuminated by an incident beam of radiation and ...

A variational method for many-electron system is applied to momentum distribution calculations. The method uses a generating two-electron geminal and the amplitudes of the occupancies of one particle natural orbitals as variational parameters. It introduces correlation effects beyond the free fermion nodal structure. q 2000 Elsevier Science Ltd. All rights reserved.

A method is presented for solving the Bloch equation for Morse potential, based on the application of Fourier transformation of the density matrix. The results obtained agree completely with the results obtained by other methods, however its advantage lies in its elegance and intuitivity of the approach. q 2000 Elsevier Science Ltd. We describe the design of an instrument for the investigation of sample dynamics: the SPring-8 High Resolution Beamline (BL35XU). The primary purpose of the beamline is high resolution (,meV) inelastic X-ray scattering measurements. The secondary purpose is nuclear resonant scattering measurements. Construction of the beamline will begin in the summer of 1999 and commissioning will start in the...

A summary of some recent results of neutron scattering studies of high temperature superconductors is given, with a focus on resonant spin excitations in the superconducting states of YBa2Cu3O61x and Bi2Sr2CaCu2O81d . The opportunities offered by advances in neutron scattering instrumentation, such as focusing and polarization techniques, for these experiments are discussed. q 1999 Published by...
